The Commonsense of Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine
If you have never been to an Acupuncturist, Doctor of Chinese Medicine, or an Integrative Medicine Doctor, there are many reasons to give it some thoughtful consideration.
There are many proven mechanisms for how acupuncture works (See Below), but there are almost as many common-sense reasons for why having a personal and thorough conversation about your medical history and your present situation can be profoundly beneficial.
Most mainstream doctors only have ten minutes to ask you questions and listen to all of your concerns. Often they will tell to limit your ‘complaints’ to just one or two.
There is no way to competently care for an entire human being and understand everything that is happening in that amount of time.
There is an immense difference between managing symptoms and doing the necessary detective work to understand any complex disease.
The first video in this series discusses some of the many common-sense benefits of working with a clinician who has the time and training to actually investigate and understand your present health challenges, your entire medical history, and how your lifestyle may be involved.
Acupuncture and Injury Rehabilitation
Human bodies are not like cars!
You cannot just replace a part and expect all aspects of your physiology to change. This is especially true if you have a complex condition like an Autoimmune disease.
Even something as ‘simple’ as a torn muscle has a five-stage process to go through to get completely rehabilitate the injured tissue.
The Five Stages of Rehabilitation are:
-
-
- Resolve Hypertonicity
- Improve Range of Motion (flexibility)
- Restore Normal Biomechanics
- Increase Strength
- Optimize Stamina
-
In the second video, I discuss several ways in which Acupuncture can help facilitate each stage of this natural and necessary process.
Exactly How Acupuncture Relieves Pain
If you love to dig into the details and go on a ‘deep dive’ into how things work from a clinical and scientific perspective, this video is for you.
The effect acupuncture has on local circulation, the release of pain-relieving hormones, and the exact way that Acupuncture affects your nerves individually and your nervous system, in general, have been proven beyond any doubt.
Making this video reminded of something my original Acupuncture teacher used to say. Any time someone would try and prove that there was some profound and mystical reason that Traditional Chinese medicine was better or ‘beyond’ modern medicine, he would say ‘The only difference between TCM and modern medicine is semantics’.
He was the inheritor of fifteen generations of an oral family tradition of both Chinese medicine and Daoism.
Although the terminology in this video is purely scientific, the meaning, the effects, and the benefits are the same as talking about the movement and aliveness of your Qi – your body’s expression of vitality.
Get ready to embrace your inner nerd!
Acupuncture Relieves Visceral and Somatic Pain
Some aspects of chronic pain are relatively simple and mechanical. Others are more subtle and some are very personal.
If Traditional Chinese medicine and Acupuncture have one essential truth to share with the world, it is this: Everything is Connected!
Your internal organs are connected to your skin, your emotions are connected to your metabolism and immune system, and any previous trauma can be connected to your posture and muscle memory.
In this video, I discuss how acupuncture uses these connections to help your body heal, your emotions find balance, and support the gradual release of trauma from your nervous system and connective tissue.
Enjoy!
